Restaurants
McAllister Architects specializes in restaurant and commercial kitchen design and permitting. Before our principal, Lee McAllister, established his architectural practice, he had a successful 15-year culinary career, including 10 years as a sous-chef at the Washington Marriot-Wardman Park. Because of this experience, he can provide valuable insight and guidance as a commercial kitchen consultant as well as an architect. The McAllister Architect Team has been successfully permitting restaurant projects since the firms founding in 1991. We work on approximately 15-30 projects in this field every year.
Our restaurant projects include: full service and fast casual restaurants, bakers, cafes, bars, breweries, catering facilities, night clubs, sidewalk cafes, and prototype packages for expanding restaurants and franchises.
Catering
McAllister staff have worked with several different catering facilities since the firm’s establishment, many of our catering clients are repeat customers for when they move or expand. Our team is made up of kitchen specialists, architects and interior designers who work with our clients to design a functional layout that streamlines operation for both the cooks and administrative staff. From new facilities, renovations large and small or feasibility studies, our team looks forward to assisting our clients.

Sidewalk Cafes
In many jurisdictions, a separate permit application is required for restaurants, bakeries, cafes… to set up an outdoor dining area an adjacent sidewalk. Sidewalk cafes may include movable planters, umbrellas, railings, custom millwork, pergolas, lounge furniture and more in addition to standard tables and chairs. Our team is familiar with the permitting requirements for these permits and can also guide clients on furniture layout and selection.
